The website I use for investing (Royal Bank of Canada Direct Investing) now does not properly render data that is in a table like format (variable number of rows). A larger size font is used which often causes wrap around. In one case, a table is now given a rather dark gray background making fearing difficult.

Both FF versions now have the problem - so it seems that this may just be a parameter, but I could not see anything obvious.

I would like to avoid resetting everything if possible.

I seem to have stumbled on a solution buy going back to the first suggestion and trying some variations. The default font default is 16. (Parameter: font.size.variable.x-western) When I set it to 14, the problem went away. Weird!

Thank you all for you help and suggestions for things to look at.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" in case the current setting is causing problems.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.

The three settings were those on my FF.

I have included two examples, but there are many of them at this site. The font side is several sizes larger than it should be.

I have not noticed this problem on any other site. Even the Royal Bank's site for banking does not seem to have this problem.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

This will open a dialog where you can remove the cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

You're welcome

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages to avoid issues like you encountered.
