I've gone to the help page> backup/restore. But no luck. I'm trying not to lose heart. I have been saving bookmarks for years. The new dialogue box only goes back to November 2016? But even then - does not restore. Where should I go for help in retrieving these - I really need them !! This hitch has made me think maybe I should save all my bookmarks as an email link. Laborious- but atleast secure. Any assistance most appreciated.Thankyou

Do you still have the compressed .jsonlz4 backups in the bookmarkbackups folder?

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup _> Restore

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

See also:

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Note that you lose the history when places.sqlite is removed, either by you or by the PM extension.
