What is your anti-virus software?
Thank you for reply . I use AUG free Av
I meant it to read AVG free AV.
Try to start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.

Does the problem go away?
I have tried this but it still takes a quite a while to open. Would uninstalling & reinstalling help.
Thank you for your answers . I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling . It does seem to be a bit quicker but not instant as it used to be . Maybe I will have to live with it or disable it alltogether and try another email client .Any suggestions.
