Can you give more information please Is it just icons ( favicons ) on the open tabs that are blank ?

Did you use the Firefox Reset feature ? Have you got a folder on the desktop named something like Old Profile ?

What do you mean screwing up your extensions ? What are or were they ? Please list with full name, version and download or Home site if possible.

You can check for issues with the Windows icon cache and try to rebuild the icon cache.

1. Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC)
2. In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
3. Open the file picker via "File > New Task (Run)" and click the Browse button.
4. Type or Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local (%LocalAppData%) in the File name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
5. Select the IconCache.db file and use "Delete" in the right-click context menu to delete the file.
6. After the IconCache.db file has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.

The IconCache.db file is a hidden file, so make sure that you can see hidden files.

I fixed all the problems my self by doing a restore back a month on my pc ! All is fixed now, will not be don't that ever again! couldn't open any internet short cuts either, kept asking for permission!! All fixed now.

Note that Windows resets icons of internet shortcuts on the desktop if the default browser is changed.

I didn't change browsers!

The Desktop Icons, is more of a Windows Operating System issue rather than a Firefox problem.

The problem with your Firefox Extensions may still need attention. Or is that fixed now also ? Firefox updates are important for security reasons. Using outdated versions is not recommended and increases risks to your data and privacy.
