how do I save changes to about:config?
I change the keyword url in about:config but don't know how to save this change. If just close the tab or the browser, the old settings reappear.

Changes are saved when you close Firefox completely, not just a tab.
If a change isn't getting saved, you probably have something installed which is changing the pref each time you start Firefox. You need to get rid of the cause, t00.

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I found the culprit - Freerip Toolbar by Spigot Inc. changes the Keyword Url line to Yahoo every time the PC boots up. Should be fine now. Many thanks for your assistance, folks.
