Am I paranoid ? Has anyone else received something like it? I did not attach it or forward it to anyone else, just in case it is a real scam ... I did not look at details either, because I just paid $89.00 to fix a virus purported to be from Micro-soft."

There was a big "Firefox" logo at the bottom of the page.

You were right to be suspicious of that mail.

I can't say much about the I just paid $89.00 to fix a virus purported to be from Micro-soft because I have not seen it.

As to malware protection, there are free programs available. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
