Because of one stubborn company that refuses to update to newer technology, I still have the Java plugin installed on my computer. I have Firefox set to enable it on this one Web site only, but today I found out that this enabling doesn't occur if I happen to open the page in question from within a private window - and the red Lego that indicates this in the address bar is annoyingly easy to overlook. Why are my preferences being ignored when I switch to private browsing? How can I get Firefox to respect my wishes regardless of the status of the window I'm using?

Sorry, I can't answer that.

Didn't we answer this for you almost a year and a half ago, over here? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1045653

Overall, all NPAPI Plugins are going away by the end of this year. https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/ So Java will be kaput.

Actually, I forgot I had posted that earlier question, but regardless, this is a little different - back then, the issue was getting the Firefox/Java combination to remember any settings; now I've found that the settings that are (still) being remembered for regular Firefox windows are nonetheless getting thrown out the window as soon as Private Browsing enters the picture.

I know this; in fact, this one Web site is a major reason I haven't moved to Fx64 yet. I guess I'll have to push harder on the Web site's admins - but I don't expect any better results with them than I've had in the past year and a half. I'm probably going to have to keep an old version of Firefox - or bite the bullet and use some other browser - just for this site after Java goes away.
