I have not opened or looked at emails and they show as being read. This is concerning me. Is someone looking into my account??? When I am using Thunderbird this doesn't seem to be the case, its only when I open my Thunderbird and any new emails that my have arrived show as read. It also takes me longer to respond to any emails as I have to double check to see which I have responded to and which I have not.

Is this a POP or IMAP account? Do others have any access to the same account? Are you looking at mail in the inbox, or has your mail been filtered to another folder?

Your question needs clarification. Isn't opening Thunderbird the same as using it?

See if any addon is causing this. start in Thunderbird Safe mode.

In thunderbird Help > restart with addons disabled.

If this works ok in Safe Mode.

restart in normal mode and disable each addon in turn to see which one is causing the conflict.
