for a few days now FF doesn't show favicons and titles of tabs correctly anymore. (see below for screencast)

  • Instead, some "standard"-sites are shown in tab-titles and favicons:
 - google
 - wikipedia
 - get involved (firefox)
  - Firefox central
  • as soon as i activate a tab, it's favicon and symbol is updated immediatelly.
  • most favicons updateto their correct data, as soon as it gets in the background it falls back to the wrong data.
  • all titles update to it's correct title as soon as activated. But againfalls back when going to background again.
  • in some tabs, the favicon completely disappears when activating (including the reserved space for the icon)
  • also in "group your tabs" view the favicons/titles are invalid. Ironically, just most of them (some favicons are correct) -- which makes it more difficult to understand for me.
  • in the group-tabs-view some of the pinned tabs/apps favicons are simply missing.

emptying cache, cookies, offline data, restarting FF, rebooting machine didn't help so far.

As far as i love my history and profile data i don't wanna make new FF-profiles.

i haven't changed the AddOns configuration the last weeks, but deactivated Sync a few days ago (because Sync messed up my bookmarks completely -- as described here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1023070 )

Video of screencast: https://flic.kr/p/qMVf2p can add screenshots as well, if needed. But the video shows the behaviour better in my eyes.

This looks like it's being caused by an add-on (of which you have many, a recent update of any one of those add-ons could be causing this). Have you tried testing in a fresh profile? Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

due to Firefox' habit of updating AddOns and itself without any(!) notification I didn't think of AddOns causing problems.

after twelfty restarts I figured out it's an AddOn (didn't play around with profiles, just dis/enabled AddOns one after the other) It could have been sooo easy, the name of the AddOn describes the problem as well: "TabRenamizer" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tabrenamizer/ disabling the AddOn made the problem disappear.

second hint concerning hardware acceleration didn't show any differences while testing.

PRO: problem solved, thanks guys! CON: can't use one of my most beloved and used AddOns anymore ;-/ (development not continued)
