Why won't Firefox make a Bookmark when selected?

Doesn't the bookmarks star (Bookmark this page) get highlighted blue to indicate that you have bookmarked the current tab? Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
