Just updated to the latest version 153. No drag and drop ... message shown is 'Unspecified Error'. I made no changes when updating to this latest release. Appreciate some guidence. Thanks

Thunderbird did update while Thunderbird was running. Notice no new emails a few hours later. Icon changed to text picture and all folders showing. Received request if I wanted text icon removed? Said yes. Everything gone. Went to program file, x86 file and only file in Thunderbird visable last nigher were update logs. Now gone, everything in Mozilla maintenance folders gone.

Appdata shows 8/10 profile. Mobile email link to Thunderbird down, not receiving.

When I up dated the latest version of T.B.. when switching form the index desk top page to read the email, the page is blank EXCEPT for "SWITCH TO: EXTENSION" displayed at the top of the page

The T.B. icon is not is not displayed

I see 153.0 (the first release) is marked as ''esr'. But from 153.0.1, there are both esr and release. I would be great to understand the reason behind this approach.

Using Windows 11. I try to update from ESR (version 140.13) to the release path. It concludes with a pop-up saying I must "reboot to finish a Thunderbird de-install" (or words to that effect). I reboot and it hasn't done anything. Version 140.13ESR is still present and if I repeat the update to release, the same thing happens.

I fear if I use the W11 tools to de-install Thunderbird altogether before re-installing TB from scratch, I'll lose all my existing email.

How do I do it?

I am on release 140.12.1 esr and there appears to be no new updates available. If so, what release should I be on and can I just download and install to get back on the latest release

I had logged this issue in early 2025 but it has never been resolved and still exists.

I received a reply today, Tuesday 7th July, from Wayne Mery, who said "If you are still having problems when using a newer version, please post a new question and we'll take a new look at it.". as the original post has been archived.

So, here are the details:

"I am currently running Thunderbird 152.0.1 (64-bit) and I don't get an automatic prompt for updates and haven't been getting them since I updated to Supernova and now Nebula.

I have the settings set to Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them, which is the setting I have always had and I used to get automatic prompts for updates with a window opening to show the details of the update as I get in Firefox.

Can someone tell me how to get these automatic updates back."

Updating on June 20, the existing Thunderbird version in a flash of a second was replaced by a new blank one. All files and settings were lost. I needed an expert who (at cost of course!) managed to roll back the program with all files and settings as they were. This was a disaster, how can such effect happen? Right now I do not trust the updates anymore and will not implement new updates.

After running an update, when launching Thunderbird it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Thunderbird. Do you want to reboot now?". Rebooting does nothing, I'm prompted with the same message. Tried re-installing the latest version - it gives me the same error message before re-installying, and also un-installing the version I have on my PC - it also prompts me to restart to finish the earlier upgrade.

Lorsque je veux modifier la manière dont Thunderbird est mis à jour, il s'affiche ceci :

"Thunderbird est mis à jour par une autre instance" et il est impossible de le modifier car si on on choisit de le faire, le logiciel thunderbird corrige immédiatement et retourne à la configuration précédente (solutions/choix à cocher, mises à jour automatiques ou manuelles) !

I'm confused and slightly concerned.

Through no deliberate action by me, Thunderbird DOWNGRADED itself from the May 2026 standard release version to an AUGUST 2025 ESR(Extended Support Release) version.

UPDATE: the next application restart brought the ESR version up to date, but why was I forced onto the ESR version?!

What could have pissibly triggered this? I don't want or need ESR, and without knowing the cause, I have e no guarantee it won't happen again. Worst if all, everywhere I look, there is zero explanation for this. It appears to be fairly unprecedented.

My original installer for 102.15.1 was downloaded from the official Thunderbird site in 2025.

The sequence of events:

• I've had Thunderbird version 102.15.1 installed for awhile, but wasn't using it.
• Ysterday I opened it and connected an account.
• Today I noticed it hadn't auto-updated, so I went into the settings and clicked on the 'check for updates'.
• this brought it up to v115.10.1.
• Its success was demonstrated by me being sent to this URL after it opened: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thu.../?locale=en-US&version=115.10.1&channel=release&oldversion=102.15.1(https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/115.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=115.10.1&channel=release&oldversion=102.15.1)
• An hour later, I closed Thunderbird completely hoping it would fix a sync that appeared 'stuck'.
• When I re-opened Thunderbird, I saw the small "updating" window. It was pretty surprising since I had *just* updated.

May 25 2026. A few days ago, Thunderbird upgraded me to Release 151.0. I can no longer send or receive emails.

My wife has been upgraded to ESR 140.11.Oesr, and she has no problems.

I do not want to go through the tests of removing virus guard etc to try to make 151.0 work, so I would like to move to ESR 140.11, but cannot find online how to do that?

Please help.

I'm currently running Thunderbird 140.9.1esr and it shows an update available to version 140.10.0esr. However, when I click on the update button, it shows "downloading" but it stays at 0 bytes and will not download the update. All previous updates to my current version automatically downloaded and installed after I clicked on the update button. How do I fix this or is there a problem with 140.10.0esr? Thank you!
