When I up dated the latest version of T.B.. when switching form the index desk top page to read the email, the page is blank EXCEPT for "SWITCH TO: EXTENSION" displayed at the top of the page

Please show us a screen shot. I can't picture what you're describing.

What "T.B. icon" are you referring to?

The words, "SWITCH TO: EXTENSION" suggest that a Thunderbird add-on might be interfering. Try restarting Thunderbird in Troubleshooting Mode, which, among other things, will temporarily disable your add-ons, in case they are misbehaving. See <Help | Troubleshoot Mode>
