8/12/26 update cleared icon and TB files from program folders.

Thunderbird did update while Thunderbird was running. Notice no new emails a few hours later. Icon changed to text picture and all folders showing. Received request if I wanted text icon removed? Said yes. Everything gone. Went to program file, x86 file and only file in Thunderbird visable last nigher were update logs. Now gone, everything in Mozilla maintenance folders gone.

Appdata shows 8/10 profile. Mobile email link to Thunderbird down, not receiving.

It looks to me like a program called "IObit" has automatically updated Thunderbird, that is, Thunderbird did not update itself. First thing to do is TURN THAT FEATURE OFF! It's dangerous, as you have discovered.

After doing that, I think your best bet is to make a safety copy of your entire Thunderbird Profile, which is the folder, separate from the programs itself, that contains all your email accounts, messages, folders, passwords, preferences, everything. Put the copy in a safe, convenient place on your computer. The default location of the folder to back up is:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

Then, uninstall whatever remnants are left of the program, if possible, then reinstall Thunderbird using the installer from the official source

if you're lucky it will detect your existing profile and you'll be back in business. If not, there are ways to import the old profile if it is still intact.
