bookmarks not saving correctly
For the last few weeks I have been unable to save new bookmarks into the folder of my choice. Instead I can only save new bookmarks into the last folder I created. I cannot navigate to a different pre-existing folder. This problem only occurs when using Firefox on my Android cell phone, but not on my PC. However, I can still view and use all of my previous folders and bookmarks when wishing to open a new website, per usual. Thank you

Hi @jnhs 👋
That sounds like a known issue some Android users have run into after recent Firefox updates.
Try this first:
Go to Settings → Firefox → Clear cache (not data).
Restart the browser and check if bookmarks can be saved again.
If not, go to Settings → About Firefox, and make sure you’re on the latest version — older builds had a bug affecting folder navigation in the bookmark dialog.
If it still doesn’t work, you can file feedback via Menu → Help → Report issue, so the devs can track it.
Hello thomaskarker460, Thanks for your quick response.
On my Android Firefox app I don't seem to have the path you suggested --
Settings → Firefox → Clear cache (not data)
I don't see "Firefox" as an option.
The closest I found is --
Settings → About Firefox → (nothing about a cache)
or
Settings → Delete Browsing Data → Cached images and files (which I've done and which doesn't resolve the problem)
My Firefox version is 144.0.2 (Build #2016122767), installed 2025/10/27. I assume it is the most current version, and my problem pre-dates this.
If I can't resolve this issue I'll report it per your suggestion.
Thanks 👍
In Firefox on Android, when I tap Add at
menu > [Bookmarks] Add
Firefox automatically saves the new bookmark in the last folder. So then to change that, I need to:
- Quickly glance down the screen to find the floating bar with the EDIT button and tap EDIT
(or use menu > [Bookmarks] Edit) - Tap the current folder name
- Tap the new folder name
- Tap the left arrow to return to the bookmark details
- Tap the left arrow to return to the page
Did it work differently before?
Endret
Jscher, I think the steps you suggested are what I used to be able to do. When I try to use those steps now my only options seem to be either to place the bookmark in the last-used folder, or create a new folder within the last-used folder. Whereupon the "new folder" becomes the only available folder. Grrrrr...
I appreciate your trying to help me out.
Jscher, I just tried saving a bookmark on my wife's phone (Android / Firefox) and it works perfectly, as I've always done it. So the problem has something to do with my phone.
I see that my wife's Firefox version is 140.0.4 while mine is 144.0.2. I wonder if my later version has a bug in it?
