FF becomes totally unresponsive after staying idle for hours

I usually have about 15 tabs open and my laptop is always on. When I wake up in the morning Firefox stops responding, meaning the buttons become unclickable even it's hard to close it. It happens each day, even after a couple of hours being idle.

I have already reset FF and disabled hardware acceleration. That didn't fix anything.

The problem started appearing about two weeks ago. I just like to have Firefox being stable and responsive 24/7.

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

Hi, cor-el!

I have tried your suggestion launching Firefox in safe mode but as I came back home today the issue is still there: the browser is so unresponsive that I had to use Task Manager to shut it down.

After I restart Firefox the issue is gone for some hours, than it comes back.

Maybe worth to mention that my laptop has a shared graphic card and 4 GB of RAM, if that can help.
