newtab brings up dm.onesearch.org instead of About:newtab how do I get it back i am on firefox version 56

somehow the new tab does not bring up the standard About:newtab which I have set to show recent sites. I reset the browsernewtaburl in the config to about:newtab (closed firefox and re -opened) and that did not work. anything else I can do?

1 - change it back to what? i don't remember what it was originally 2 - that still does not solve the problem. how do I get it to be a newtab if i type about:newtab it gets me what I want. cliking on the new tab "+" sign gets me this weird search engine that I never heard of.
