I keep getting the Shockwave is not working popup. Happens in Outlook, on web, etc. What do I need to do?

You seem to have two versions of the Flash plugin installed. Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
Get rid of the older one!
First, grab the Adobe uninstaller from here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
Then download the latest Flash Plugin version from here: Select Plugin-based browsers - the EXE version. https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Run the Flash uninstaller program, then reboot your PC. Then install the Plugin version of Flash. So you'll have a clean installation of Flash for Firefox.

Hi Sugram22, if Firefox is using default settings, when an upgrade changes the default, your setting will also change. If you customized the setting, then the upgrade should not change it, however, if your custom setting is the new default, then on a later update, if that default changes, the setting could change. But in this case, the bigger issue is that Google started forcing HTML5 on YouTube for Firefox, and Mozilla added a setting to block it, then Google changed its default, then it changed back, I mean, I cannot keep track of the history any more....
ok, so in other words Mozilla & Google are fighting over it, when one disables HTML5 then the other one will force it back on, finds a way to force it back on
Hi Sugram22, for Windows 7-8.1 users, the battle is over and Firefox no longer tries to disable HTML5 on YouTube. For older versions of Windows, Firefox may behave differently.
why isn't Mozilla Maintenance Service being updated? its still v 36, in the past when Fox got updated so did Mozilla Maintenance Service, is it a bug, or Mozilla doesn't update it anymore? maybe that's the reason i no longer get Fox updates automatically & no notification about update neither, i only notice updates cause i click on Help & then About FireFox & then it updates

Hi Sugram22, new major updates are not supplied to all users immediately, since there sometimes are bugs that require an emergency update. Therefore, three out of four Firefoxes may report there is no update available during those initial days and this is normal.

1) i get updates all the time, but only if i open About FireFox, i get no notifications & automatic update doesn't seem to work, i got update 38 to only cause i opened About FireFox & then it started to search updates, i mean i get update only when i open that http://techhelpkb.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/ff38.png, if i would not open it time to time, i would still be at v35 or v36
2) Maintenance Service is not being updated, it is still v36
Hi Sugram22, you might want to start a new question about not being updated automatically or not getting notified of updates, depending in what setting you have. This thread is already very long and marked as solved.

This stuff happens whenever I click on a youtube link after searching for a video. Embedded videos play just fine though. I am using html5, I don't know how to put Flash back, maybe, just maybe it would stop the crashing. I've sent tons of crash reports since this is happening, it started happening since the last update. I'm using Linux Mint 17.2, latest Firefox, 40.0.3 Linux Mint Version 1.0, but you can see all of that in the bug links...please help this is really annoying. I need to start Chromium or Opera otherwise and those don't have the security add-ons I usually want to have, they have some but its nowhere as complete. The plugins do not cause the crash, turned them all of as a test, and I saw in the bug link that the plugins were said not to have caused it even, the first page is easy to read for me.

Hi fruitklah, if you haven't already, could you try disabling use of hardware acceleration here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
If that does not help, or if it does but you want to use hardware acceleration, could you start a new thread and mention Linux HTML5 video in the question? That should get you more help than posting on page 2 of a solved Windows thread.
https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems
As you progress through the form, scroll down past the suggestions to continue submitting your question.
You could try to disable GStreamer support for the HTML5 media player and set media.gstreamer.enabled to false on the about:config page.
I'll try just to restart it once I finish reading (a very long single web page), then I'll see (disabling hardware acceleration) if not, I'll try this, and if it fails, I'll create my own thread.
Thanks.
Alright, disabling Hardware Acceleration did nothing, clicking on a youtube video thumbnail after search results in the same crash, well maybe, I can post the results. I'll try the GStreamer thing tomorrow, I'm really tired.
If this fails, maybe mods can take my posts and your replies and make a new thread, would be annoying to restart the whole discussion. If that's not possible, well, we'll see tomorrow. It used to be easy to tell youtube to use flash again, in youtube.com/html5, you could just disable it there, but since the Flash bug plague of 2 months ago, it seems youtube is preventing one from doing such. In my Win7 x64 Ultimate partition, I use Waterfox for its 64 bits advantage, I'll return to Firefox most likely once you have multithreading going while in windows (since windows is a resource hog even on the best systems, I do my best to keep it as fast and efficient as possible. I can't say if it happens to me when I am booted in win7 x64, I run Waterfox there, until Firefox comes up with multithreading at least, I'm taking advantage of its 64 bit nature.
Hi, I'm afraid Firefox is starting to act like IE5 on Win95! Just kidding, it's not that bad. But it crashed when absolutely nothing was going on, I was sleeping and this happened :
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/24b965ff-3bad-4533-b45f-8f3982150917
Well, I can say I'm happily waiting for a new version. This is Linux, shouldn't be happening ;)
ps: I have disabled hardware acceleration as a previous poster suggested for the original problem, clicking on a search result in youtube to watch a video link causing crashes. I have not yet done the other suggestion about GStreamer because I haven't watched anything on YT since, but I will if needed. This just happened out of nowhere.
not sure about crashes, but memory seems to leak when i watch videos, no idea about flash (nit watched videos long time & new i have only watched HTML5 resonantly), but i watched 2h long HTML5 on youtube & at the end fox memory usage was over 1GB, first it was over 300MB & after 2h it was over 1GB, i bet it could end with crash if i would have not done fox restart
If using Windows 7/8 and it's 64 bit, I suggest using Waterfox, same thing as Firefox except it's 64 bits. Much less issues with memory and it's exactly like the Firefox you otherwise love. Memory is much better managed with it.
I've made my own thread about my own problems now, as suggested, I'm not sure but it could have started when I added the media-trusty PPA and it install Totem and such, but I don't know how it could do so. I'm puzzled as to why I can't put youtube back on Flash mode, it used to be an option once you were in youtube.com/html5, anyway..Made my own thread because my crashes are not limited to youtube thumbnail links from searching it crashing firefox 64 bit (Linux) anymore, but also random crashes when I'm not even at the desktop now. I might boot up in Windows 7 x64 until I get that bug corrected.

i had waterfox & that for me had more memory issue, it leaked until browser crashed, it was last year when i uninstalled waterfox (i think it was oct nov or dec). win 8.1

This is unacceptable to me as it ruins podcast listening inside Firefox. They play in a blank window and I got no controls, it just plays so yeah...nah, I turned it back on. I think it's the trusty-media PPA which tossed out Flash Plugin for Shockwave Flash and also installed Totem and such, which I remember was fine way back when I was using Ubuntu, but with Linux Mint 17.2, getting more and more independent from the official Ubuntu repos, I think this could cause issues.
Random crashes have stopped since FF 41 came out. But youtube videos unless they are embedded will crash FF. Also some websites will cause it to crash. But I made a new thread specifically about FF in Linux Mint 17.2 crashes. I wonder if the Linux Mint Edition 1.0 has something to do with it, although I doubt it, the trusty-media PPA was full of goodies but some I will have to remove, but I'm not sure which I need to take out.
