my display is distorted, angled as it moves up and down. most of the characters in bookmarks and in portions of the screen are scrambled and do not appear to be any particular language

it doesn't happen all the time but as I scroll up and down the page the text and graphics are angled about 10 degrees to the right. some of the text in bookmarks sidebar is distorted, has black specs and shadows instead of letters. when I hover over the particular link the actual print/test usually shows up by cursor but as soon as I move away, the distorted text re-appears

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

You may have a corrupted or missing font (possibly MS Sans Serif or Microsoft Sans Serif)

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Worked fine in safe mode. I did a checkdisk, also re-cleared browser cache (for like the 5th time!) then it seems to be ok. IE never showed this so must have been Firefox issue. After clearing cache etc, I un-installed then re-installed FF and all seems to be ok now. Thanks for your help, it is appreciated.
