Why won't Firefox keep me logged in to a particular site (i.e. my email, Facebook) even after I check box to keep me logged in?

Every time I open up Firefox I have to re-log in to my email, and re-log in to Facebook, when, really, I should be kept logged in indefinitely as I check off the box that says to keep me logged in. It's a nuisance. How do I fix this?
