I just installed Firefox 3.6 on my daughter's computer and it refuses to work. Trying to access any website ends with a "The connection has timed out" error message. This includes trying to connect to the initial "firstrun" site. I have disabled IPv6 and set proxy to none. I know that Firefox runs on my network because I have it installed on my notebook and have been using it for a few years.

The installation is a plain jane installation, with nothing fanccy.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

As a further test, I disabled the firewall on that machine and it didn't change the Firefox behavior.

The only other thing with that machine that I didn't mention - and really shouldn't matter - is that it has a wireless nic. I couldn't easily get a cable to it so I just bought a wireless nic. It is connected through the same AP as my notebook, so that shouldn't be an issue.
