Firefox cannot connect to any websites, although my other browsers have no trouble doing so.

Seagate tried to remotely connect to my computer via FireFox 6.0.2 in order to fix a problem with an external drive. Hundreds of information Windows showed up as part of making the remote connection and FireFox crashed.

I have since: • Uninstalled Firefox 6.0.2 • Downloaded/installed a new copy (new copy would not work either) • Followed all advice I could find on the Mozilla support site including clearing all history

Still Firefox will not connect to any website. Here is the error message I get:

Unable to connect:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at nytimes.com. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Thank you. This sounds as if it might be helpful, however, I have downloaded FF 5.0 and I'm happily back in business. I think I'll stay with 5.0 for awhile until 6 settles down. Thanks again.

Firefox 6 won't settle down as the next release Firefox 7 is already planned to be released later this month.

You shouldn't be using Firefox 5 because it doesn't have the patch to disable the DigiNotar certificates that was the reason for Firefox 6.0.2.
Using unsupported Firefox versions is at your own risk and makes you vulnerable to attacks.

I have followed your advice and warning and now have FF 6.0.2 running successfully on my machine.

Thank you.
