Windows 11 : Fix this ASAP I delete all tabs, close firefox, reopen and I get 5 tabs which seem to be STUCK. I delete 3 of these tabs, go about my work, none of those 3 are open, and I shut everything down. When I reopen Firefox, those 5 "default tabs" (the 3 I don't want have migrated over from I don't know were - both Chrome and Edge open with New Tab.)

I have enough other problems in my life - and done't tell me to create a new profile. At that point I'll kill firefox and end my donations to Mozilla.

Hello,

have you tried the methods below?: 1. Disabling session restore: type about:preferences#general into the adress bar, and uncheck Open previous windows and tabs. 2. Check homepages : Type about:preferences#home into the adress bar, then set "Homepage and new windows" is set to "Firefox Home (Default)" to a single URL, or "new tab" 3. Check sessionstore file : Close Firefox, go to your profile folder (windows), and delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak (if it exists). 4. Pinned tabs if the tabs are pinned, it is possible that the pin could hinder with the tabs all closing.

Fixed it. Now I don't have to revert to Chrome or Edge. I don't know what pinned tabs are, but I don't think that's a problem.

More info about pinned tabs.

Note that sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak are no longer used for storing session data, sessionstore.js has been replaced by sessionstore.jsonlz4 and other sessionstore files are in the sessionstore-backups folder.

You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

  • previous.jsonlz4 (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.jsonlz4 from previous session that was loaded successfully)
  • recovery.jsonlz4 (latest version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • recovery.baklz4 (previous version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • upgrade.jsonlz4-<build_id> (backups created during a Firefox update)

You can copy a file with Firefox closed from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile folder and rename the file to sessionstore.jsonlz4 to replace the current file.

  • make sure to backup the current sessionstore.jsonlz4

You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed jsonlz4 sessionstore file. This tool works locally, no uploading is done.
