Hi there.

The original problem is described here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1472503 ( Also the solution I found.)

Jaws and James seem to have left the building.

This problem first occurred with the update from V 135.0.1 to V 136.0 . Currently on V 136.0.4, and every update has exhibited the same behavior.

I have the same issue with two laptops, running Windows 10. Each has been through a few update cycles, and the "Restart to Update" always fails.

So, I close FF, watch for the Resource Monitor to quiet down, and reopen FF.

When I go through this sequence, I notice that the screen will flash once VERY quickly before opening the home page.

FF seems to function normally otherwise.

Thanks for being there,

greg moehl

OK folks. Just tried the V 137.0.1 update. Same problem.  :(

Downloaded update. Mashed the Restart to Update button. Did not update.

So, I close FF, watch for the Resource Monitor to quiet down, and reopen FF. When I go through this sequence, I notice that the screen will flash once VERY quickly before opening the home page. And the update has worked.

I note that the bugzilla 1941931 was updated: Magnus Melin [:mkmelin] Updated • 8 hours ago Duplicate of this bug: 1958637

FF seems to function normally otherwise.

We are a patient lot, are we not?

Yeah, it been happening for few versions on both Linux and Windows for me. I just roll with it for about a day or so and it eventually updates.

'Nother update.

Checking in on Buzilla from one day ago (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1941931) this bug has been described as a "nightmare" for the folks working on it. I have every confidence that it will be properly fixed, eventually.

OK, then...

This morning there appeared a FF update, V 138.0.

I just mashed the "Restart to Update Firefox" button, and the screen FLASHED two times. Then it did the progress updating animation. Then it restarted. Update had been installed, and the "What's New" page opened.

Hoo-ray! A big THANK YOU to all the hard-working Mozilla/Firefox folks who helped solve this problem.
