why does the downloads window not open when downloading attachments?

before the latest update when i would download and attachment from an email or rss feed a separate window would pop up with the status of the downloads and a progress bar for each.

now it does not. i have tried restarting with add-ons disabled but it still acted the same. (i only use the one calendar add-on but i figured it might have caused some kind of conflict)

it does download the attachments into the proper folder but without a status bar of some kind i have no idea without opening the folder weather or not the download has finished

is this an IMAP account where you have set it to not have local copies? Otherwise your "download" is about the same thing as saving a document in Word.

no i use thunderbird for both email and to download podcasts from their rss feeds and when saving an mp3 file from an rss feed it used to open a download window with a progress bar for each download now it does not open that window and i cannot find any option for making it do so or disabling it from doing so
