firefox is using 1.5-2gb of ram! it lags on everything how can i make it goe faster and use less ram?

firefox is lagging continually on the basic level, on opening a web page to even typing this problem. when i open task manager its using between 1.5gb - 2gb vidoes on youtube load but it keeps skipping and lagging
