So, I've been using firefox for a bit now but I've still been avoiding dealing with this. this is almost the same problem as a question I asked before about hulu not working. My pages won't redirect at all. if I click on a link that redirects me somewhere, firefox will just not do anything and stop the page from loading. I don't know if this is my security software (I use ESET), or anything in about:config thats doing this. if someone could help that would be great.

Firefox has a redirect block, but it keeps you on the same page and shows a bar between the normal toolbars and the page asking you to allow the redirect. What you are seeing is not from that feature.

Could it be due to an add-on or external security software?

As a way to rule out an add-on, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

I tried what cor-el said and it still didn't work. I have a serious feeling that this has to do with my security system, ESET. Its pretty anal about everything and i recently wiped my laptop and have yet to install ESET and firefox will let pages redirect me places.
