How can I pin an URL-link to the taskbar?

I can make a link to a website on my desktop, but I cannot pin it to the taskbar. Why?

Also, when I click on the link it opens as the next tab in the Firefox Window. Is there a way to always let it open in an individual window?

You can't pin a link to the taskbar. But you can place the link in the Bookmarks Toolbar.
