How to have attachments be recognized as Microsoft Word documents?
Messages seem to come in using WordPad. I want to use MS Word. Thanks for any help.

Hello there,
I suggest trying the "Refresh Firefox" feature which usually fixes most problems. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings
The "Refresh" feature works by creating a new profile folder for you while saving your most important data.
Hope this helps!
Normally, Firefox gets its cue to your preferred program based on your Windows defaults. But you also can try changing Firefox's settings directly:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Applications
This tab mau take some time to load. If you type word in the search box above the list and pause while it is filtered, you normally would get two entries. The first is for DOC and the second is for DOCX. On the right side there is a button to change the way each of those types of downloads are handled. Can you find a setting that works the way you want?
It never started a download, or any action that I could see.
If, at the top of your Firefox it does not show the Menu Bar - showing File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help, hit F10 to make it show up and then go to Tools > Options.
Once that opens, click on Applications at the top, and then enter word in the bar where it says search. Once you've done that, click just below Action, and it will give you it's choices of how to open Word documents. Mine gives a choice of Always ask, Save file, Use Microsoft Word, and Use other...
It will not start a download or do any other perceivable action. It will just set the system to use Word to open .doc or .docx documents.

thanks stanstr; I did try several times, but no list appears. I did a "refresh" reload of Firefox, so will see if that helps, but I should have seen the list of options.
