Hi, I'm using Firefox 14-10. I get a notice and link to update. I click to update. It says: "Connecting to the Update Server" FOREVER. I can leave it like that for hours, doesn't matter. Never connects. I tried resetting my firefox but still doesn't ever connect to server.

I've read some answers but they are very old. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall if I can help it.

I'm using Windows 7. Thank you!

Chosen solution

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files if there are still problems.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Thanks so very much! I was too scared to uninstall it, so it took me awhile, but I finally did and so far, it works like a dream.
