I can see videos on youtube, but on sites that link to youtube I only get a white rectangle. This problem does not occur with Internet Explorer.

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

Searching for "Youtube" will give several technical and rather unhelpful posts regarding this problem. However, if you download Firefox 4 beta this problem will go away (although you will lose any add-ons which are incompatible).

Cor-el, thanks for the solution. I have not tried it as I have now switched to Firefox 4.0 which does not have the same problem, but the problem is now solved as far as I am concerned.
