Bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2077526. It's fixed, should land in release versions soon. As a workaround for now, you can drag and drop the file to be attached into the message.

Try restarting Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode to rule out an extension or customization issue. You can also test dragging a file directly into the compose window—if that works, the problem may be limited to the Attach button or toolbar.

I'm also having the same problem, although I can drag & drop or cut & paste the attachment into my email.

I'm using version 157.0.1 (64 bit).

The bug has clearly not been fixed.

The bug is fixed and will land in next Tuesday's release of 158.0 and 153.5.0esr.

Thanks for the update.
