It is just all the "sexy" photoos of movie stars and such. I mean, it's okay but iit's a terrible distraction and I find myself going there and wastding too much time. Can I get rid of all that on my oppening screen?

Sure. You can disable "Stories", see: Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page
