Vertical gray oval shape on Search Box/Bar?

On MacBook Pro running Tahoe 26.3.1.(a), very often in the Search Box/Bar, a vertical gray oval overlays the last characters I've entered for a search. As it gets in the way, anyone know how I can eliminate this?

Thank you in advance!

Could this be a scroll bar?

Pretty sure it's not. However, I did have spellcheck enabled in the settings. But spellcheck is supposed to underline misspellings in red, not cover up the last character or two with a gray oval. At any rate, I turned off spellcheck and that seems to have eliminated the gray oval. But, that means that I can't use spellcheck without having the gray oval show up.

Did you try Troubleshoot Mode?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click "Refresh Firefox" in the Troubleshoot Mode start window
