Why can't I permanently delete email using a filter?
I want to be able to permanently delete (equivalent of Shift-Delete) emails using a filter. Currently I can't do that. Selecting the delete option in a filter just moves the email to the trash. That means I have to handle the email twice in order to get rid of it.
Other email clients offer this feature. Why doesn't Thunderbird.

So... I understand that if I set: account setting>server settings>when i delete a message>remove it immediately then if I use the delete key on any email in any folder in my email account, that email will be permanently deleted. Also if I set up a filter where the action is Delete Message than any email that matches that filter will be permanently deleted.
That works for me.

Hello there Larry

If pop then you
can change the filter action s .
As i have read why this setting is not there it s because of saving space and to prevent.
Go to the filter settings Go to tools > message filters > edit > change them from delete message to delete message from pop server is that possible to do? If you do use pop accounts. Do you use pop , can i ask?
Modified
I don't use pop. I use imap.
Hello Larry
Oke good , you can try to bypass the trashcan for pop and imap . By going to account setting>server settings>under ; when i do delete messages do select remove immediately. This deletions are permanently.(note).
All these setting that you do wish to use are not there because of security reasons and to get things and data smooth and safe troughs thunderbird.

Hello Larry
If you like to get rid of the build up message in the trashcan. You can try our setting empty on exit.
Go to account settings>server settings>check the box for delete or empty trash on exit
Do you agree with our proposal?

Hello Larry
Thunderbird software just cleanse the emails from the program and not direct deleting them.
