I'm going to suggest looking at the Restore menu. Don't actually restore immediately because that will roll you back and you will lose other things. Do an Export first so you have a copy of the recent stuff for reference.

thank you jscher2000, i already tried that and it didn't help, all the dates there show that i've like 350-360 booksmarks but i believe to have way more so i don't even know since when so many disappeared, must have been at least 2 weeks or something. Do you have any other ideas please or maybe know if i can get in contact with mozilla to see if they have bookmarks from maybe like a month ago or something please? thank you

Mozilla offers the Sync service, but what is in the Sync cloud most likely matches what you have on your computer right now.

Sometimes bookmarks get misplaced. If you search for a missing song using the Library window (Manage Bookmarks, or Ctrl+Shift+O as in Organizer), can you find any of them? If so, you can right-click > Show in Folder to see where it is among your bookmarks.

Your bookmarks are not shared with Mozilla except in one form: when you use Sync, the bookmarks are encrypted with your Mozilla account password and then uploaded to the Sync cloud.

You can check what data is in the Sync cloud for your Mozilla Account using the About Sync add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/about-sync/

After you install the add-on, you can type or paste about:sync in the address bar and press Enter to load it. The page shows each category of data currently found in the Sync cloud.

Automatic bookmark backups have this file naming convention:

bookmarks-2025-06-17_8134_gibberish=.jsonlz4

That is:

  • "bookmarks-"
  • creation date
  • "_"
  • item count
  • "_"
  • some kind of checksum?
  • "=.jsonlz4"

You can try a tool like Recuva that scrounges around for deleted files you might want to restore, and see whether you find any older backups with more items. https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva

One other thought:

In case your Firefox switched profiles, please use the steps in the first section of the following article to investigate bookmarks in other profiles on your system: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks.

alas alas alas... I'm starting to doubt if i'm losing my mind or if i really did lose bookmarks because it just feels so much shorter than it was like let's say a month or so ago, but if i go to the restore button it show me all the entry spots from the last 2 weeks and they all seem to be around 345-350 which is so weird because i thought i had a lot more ... jscher2K thank you so much for trying to help me out, guess i'll never know if i'm missing bookmarks or not but i really believe i do, kind regards!

If you go into Manage Bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+O), then put youtube into the little search box at the upper right, does the list have the Added column? If not, right-click any column heading and turn on Added. Then click the Added column heading twice to sort in descending order by date. Is there a big gap in your list (compared with your pattern of how often you bookmark YouTube videos)?

the thing is i just randomly throw in songs i like on to my bookmark bar all the way down but then it really got long so i got tired of it and started dropping them at another known spot for me on my bookmark bar but what's throwing me way off is when i go all the way down on that list the last song there doesn't ring any bell at all when i added it because it was from so long ago so that's why i'm thinking that something went wrong somewhere ... if i do what you told me the dates seem to line up but it just feels like i had way more songs there (hard to put a number on it, could be missing 50, could be 150 i just don't know, could maybe even be none and i'm totally mistaken (i really hope it's the latter)). Thank you so much jscher2000 for your time and help! I asked this question as well on reddit and somebody mentioned your name there so you're definitely been very helpful to me and as you can see (many) others as well! I think that's all i can try right?
