explain it to me like I am 5 years old. Updated firefox, still can't get addons to work.

very frustrated, and pissed at how programmers always screw things up that are working just fine by upgrading crap. Now, I have suddenly had all of my addons quit working, was forced to update my firefox. Nothing changed, and it still shows that I am using version 105, instead of the all-new, better and fancier, singing and dancing crap that is being forced upon me.

Are working with your distro version or Mozilla? What OS? What Desktop? X11 or Wayland? Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release I run all Mozilla versions and Waterfox from my downloads folder. see screenshot

As a Windows person, I can't help you with questions about the Linux build.

However, if you need to run Firefox 105 long enough to export out extension data, you can set your system clock back to March 13, 2025 and then trigger reverification as follows:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste xpi-signature-verification and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Click the trash can at the right end of the row for the app.update.lastUpdateTime.xpi-signature-verification preference to remove this preference

(3) On the Troubleshooting Information page (Help > More Troubleshooting Information) use the "Clear startup cache..." button on the right side to restart Firefox. Within about a minute Firefox should reverify your extensions.

ok, I followed the instructions exactly. Firefox restarted, and the troubleshooting diagnostic page came up with all kinds of information that I don't understand, but nothing changed.

If I understand correctly:

  • You are still running Firefox 105
  • You rolled your computer back to Thursday, March 13, 2025 (or earlier)
  • You cleared the time stamp so that Firefox would reverify your extension after the next restart
  • You restarted Firefox and allowed a minute or two for reverification

This did not work, they are still disabled.

Maybe something is different between Linux and Windows.

I don't have any other suggestions for Firefox 105.

ok, so I followed all of the instructions to download it from the atp and debian links from this site, and got this crap, with no upgrade. At this point, all I can do is say wtf and curse all programmers.
