Recently my firefox started forgetting certain settings on certain website. Like Twitch... It will remember that I am logged in, BUT it keeps reverting to light mode, and i have to agree that some streamers stream with adult language EVERY time. On Reddit, again it remembers that I am logged in, BUT it forgets all my previous searches. On HBO, it completely forgets my login and i have to agree to the cookies EVERY single time. On Imgur, again it forgets everything.

Then again on Google, it remembers everything all the time.

I also want to point out that this was not a problem a few months ago. also that chrome and even edge dont have this problem.

I have tried to "refresh" firefox, even completely uninstalled it, and re-installed. same problem.

It's getting really annoying, and chrome is seeming like the better browser every day now.

Detail like websites remembering you and log you in automatically is stored in a cookie, so make sure you aren't clearing important cookies.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data

Thank you for the reply.

I am aware of all of those, and not the problem. I have set firefox to now keep ALL cookies all tracking everything is kept... and yet setting on twitch are gone every time. I have gone into the setting and changed everything back and forth, nothing helps.

Like mentioned, a few months ago everything worked perfectly, all settings were kept, at that time i had set firefox to clear cookies and history at closing, and to never allow tracking. But to keep site preferences. and that worked. Then one day, with no settings being changed, twitch and the other sites started to forget the preferences. Literally out of the blue. after that i have tried to change all setting to allow everything, but it still wont keep the site preferences.

Also as mentioned, I also tried the same on chrome and Edge. Both those browsers have the same settings as firefox, (to clear at closing and no tracking) and they still retain the site preferences for twitch and reddit etc. The only one that can't, is firefox.

And I am out of ideas, I have tried everything. I will try one more thing now. Where I completely remove every trace of Firefox, reinstall, and DO NOT log in to the firefox account, NO SYNC. start from scratch. losing everything, every bookmark and all. If that solves it, then I will never use the "account" ever again. Starting to think that something in the synced files are messing up here.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
