Why was the view picture removed from on right click options? I can open it on new tab or copy link and go that way, but why remove perfectly usable function?

Probably the answer to this question can be found in the bug tracking system somewhere.

Any way to get it back?

There is browser.menu.showViewImageInfo pref in version 90, but I'm not sure if it works in 88.

That is in beta now (Firefox 89, enabled in Developer Edition), but only restores View Image Info. There's no way to revert "Open Image in New Tab" to behave like "View Image" (i.e., open in same tab).

I don't mind Open Image in New Tab, but returning open in same tab as additional option would be nice.

Is this removed for forever?

Bring this back, I hate opening image in new tab, especially when I have a lot of tabs open, and especially when I get used to it for years.

Yeah I'd like the view image be brought back it's a frikin pain when you have so many tabs open do open in new tab to view images better having it open in the same tab was easy and convenient.

Currently, you would need to use an add-on to put View Image on the context menu. I found these in a search and haven't tested them myself:

The fastest built-in workflow to open the image in the same tab involves two extra clicks:

  • right-click the image > Copy Image Link
  • right-click the address bar > Paste and Go

Are Mozilla trying to shed users? Is this a deliberate effort to force users over to Chrome or Edge? If not, then the idiot who decided this was a good idea needs to be thrown off the roof for everybodies sake. BRING BACK "VIEW IMAGE", OR GIVE US A CONFIG SETTING SO WE CAN DO IT OURSELVES IF YOU ARE TOO ARROGANT TO CORRECT THIS STUPIDITY!

Yeaaaaahh, totally hate this change as well. I wish there were some preferences to set how this stuff works.

90% of the time, when I visit a site where I'd *want* to use View Image, I'm visiting that site FOR THE IMAGE. And now I have to open it in a separate tab - a foreground tab, no less, which leaves the old page still open, so now we all have to switch tabs to close the site we didn't want to stay open in the first place..?

What the hell. What in the world are you doing. Firefox, we love you, but please stop hurting us.

This change is appalling. Opening an image in a new tab WAS ALREADY POSSIBLE via Ctrl-click - now it's FORCED, and the only option to bring back the NORMAL BEHAVIOUR is to rely on third-party addons that you have to grant permissions.
