When I launch Thunderbird using my Mac running OS 10.13.1 (High Sierra), my screen populates with groups of square pixels - hundreds of them. If I reboot my computer and don't launch Thunderbird the problem goes away. My computer also freezes from time to time when running Thunderbird.

Have you tried with hardware acceleration on and off?

On Windows and Linux, it's under Tools|Options|Advanced|General.

The route through the menus may be different in your case.

I tried turning on hardware acceleration but it doesn't solve the problem. Any other suggestions?? I have an iMac vintage 2011 operating OS High Sierra.
