I keep getting "unable to connect" message. Even with my frequently used sites, why is this? To stop I have to completely restart the system.

For the last several months an icon has popped up at the beginning of Firefox browser addresses, it's a blocking icon. Do I allow now or allow and remember. This seems to be linked to the issue am having with the above issue, "unable to connect". I understand security and not allowing for popups, but I don't want to have to go through this everytime I open my internet web browser. Thank you
