I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, plus performed a virus/malware scan, nothing shows up.

Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceleration, some other advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

If Firefox is not running, you can start it in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key while double-clicking the Firefox icon.

A small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

I was able to get it half working... I had to run it in XP compatibility mode. This is after a uninstall/reinstall also. Also I am not computer savvy, so please be patient with me.
