Everytime I turn on FF I get this second open page advertising you plug in service. I don't want that. Please make it go away or how do I make it quit?

Updating your Plugins should make that page go away.

Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24 for Mozilla browsers is an outdated plugin.

The MetaStream 3 Plugin r4 plugin also has been reported to cause this.
