Draft are not removed.
On writing an email, a draft is created every time I look at some other screen. Multiple drafts of the same email are created at various stages, from looking away from the email page. On sending the email, these drafts remain. Drafts should be removed after sending. How can I fix this?

That sounds like an IMAP account. Each time the writing is interrupted, thunderbird saves a copy. when email is eventually sent, thunderbird removes one copy.. To avoid this, set the draft folder to local storage.
