Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
- Click the menu button
, then click Bookmarks.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Manage Bookmarks.
- At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
- Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
- In the new window that appears, click OK.
Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
My Library window only has History, Downloads, Tags and All Bookmarks.
No option for Import.
I have been a Windows Firefox user for almost 20 years now. I have never had this issue. Passwords, History, Cookies and Autofill are working flawless.
I do not know what happened, but all my bookmarks have disappeared. I tried the suggested restore process. I open the bookmark manager and click "import and backup" and no matter witch option I try it does absolutely Nothing! Restore, even choose file - nothing. Import from HTML - nothing. What I mean as nothing is I click and it just sits there like it is waiting for the option to pop up.
Please help !!!

(I assume it was a minor/routine Windows update, and not the type that requires migrating your data.)
Does your Firefox look familiar in other ways? For example, it still remembers your saved logins (if any), your new tab page shortcuts, and your custom toolbar layout?
If Firefox looks brand new, see: Recover user data missing after Firefox update
If only bookmarks/history are broken:
Is Firefox displaying an extra toolbar with the error message in the title of the following article: Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message? That can indicate that the Places database - the file which stores both bookmarks and history - is locked by another process or has become corrupted. The article describes how to remove the file and start fresh, but I suggest something less drastic to start:
First, if you haven't already, please do a normal shutdown and/or restart of your system. Restarting Windows can help by freeing up locked files, completing any deferred updates, and resolving temporary file permission issues.
Next, if Firefox still has bookmark problems, could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" diagnosis and repair function. That's here:
Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return
Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.
If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:
> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent
Does yours say the two files are "sane" and "coherent", or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.
