Restoring from a backup?

david replied
Steve Karl

I've got my Thunderbird profile on a different physical hard drive but also have it being backed up using a .bat.

In the event of a problem can I just copy the contents of the Profile directory from the backup overwriting the location that is always in use?

Thank you!

If your backup is an exact duplicate, created when TB is not running, then you can copy directly back to where the original was. However, that only works reliably if nothing else changed. That is, TB must still be looking for the profile in the place where you are to restore. If TB is reinstalled, you will still need to go through steps to identify the preferred profile. That also applies if you install to a new PC.

Thanks David. Perfect answer!

Glad to assist. You're quite welcome.
