Recently when I try to use Find in Page (Control F) function on Firefox PC Browser, the whole browser freezes for some seconds. When I change the search word it freezes again. This issue only started to appear recently, and it doesn't appear on any other browser. My Computer has 16GB of RAM, so I don't think that's the issue here. I would be very grateful if anyone has a clue how to fix it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

The problem doesn't happen on safe mode. Any idea what might cause it then?

Hi Kild,

The problem is with your extensions or add-ons because when you start it in safe mode(disabling add-ons or extensions), it gives you good result. So, you acn fix this problem by refreshing the browser:-

  • Click the menu icon, then click on “Help”. Click on Firefox's main menu button, represented by three horizontal lines.
  • Click “Troubleshooting Information”.
  • Click on “Refresh Firefox”.
  • Confirm.
  • Click “Finish”.

It will work for sure. Thanks for raising your question in Mozilla Support Forum.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
