Hello

I have a problem as below and it is driving me crazy.... plz help,.

I have a couple of websites (example - Wall St Journal, LinkedIN etc) which have my old login (username and/or email) and its password saved since the first time i logged in and clicked on "remember" for login and password.

Over time I changed both the username and password - so I have new login and new password. Firefox asked me if I want to save the new ones and I said yes. However everytime since then I try to login it comes up with old username and old password.

And surprisingly everytime I try to login and input new ID and password, Firefox EVERYTIME asks me if I want to save the new one and EVERYTIME I say Yes but at next login it still comes up with old username and password.

Is there any way around it? I use some of the websites almost everyday and have to do this stupid effort everyday. ANy ideas??

thanks a lot !

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

Are you using any password add-ons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

FYI - I tried deleting the saved one from the saved login and password list and it hasnt changed anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it did nothing.

Hi hafcold, No one asked yet, are you using private browsing or not saving History ? That will prevent you changing or adding stored passwords !

If so ignore the rest of this post.

Roughly how many passords do you have saved. The simplest method may be to delete the lot by renaming pair of the related files after you have written down all the passwords.

First of all lets try out a new additional profile. Use the profile manger and accept the location. give it a short simple name such as new2016a it is best not to delete or rename any profile you create. With Firefox closed Winkey R and typing in or pasting firefox.exe -P as a command should start the Profile Manger.

Note starting up the profile manager allows you to choose which profile to use.

  • Do passwords work ok when using the new profile ?

If creating and storing new passwords do not work properly in the new profile stop and post back, it is probably not worth proceeding with renaming the password files.

Use the password manger to display and allow you to record all your login details in the old profile. With the original profile open find its location my using the button in Troubleshooting information.

Now with Firefox closed rename the two password files maybe just add .old to the name.

key3.db
logins.json

Firefox will recreate the files when it restarts but tyy will contain no passwords. You will have the oportunity to for instance rename the old files if they are not actually faulty, or transfer them to the new profile so renaming is safer than just deleting them.

Hello Fred McD thanks for your input. I tried opening with safe mode and yes the problem is still there. It did not remove my problem.

Hello John 99,

thanks for the detailed reply. So far I've run the placesMaintenance add on and tried it till that part ONLY. out of the last 3 times I closed and reopened the browser, it worked 2 last times and didnt work for the first 1 time.

I am going to test again later today but mainly tomorrow since usually the next day Firefox reverted back to old login info. I want to see what it does tomorrow and update accordingly.

thanks again for your help...

Hello John99,

Update - since my last post I tried it 3-4 times and it hasnt helped. I will now proceed with the remaining things you mentioned in the post about creating a new profile etc.
