Some web site features are blocked in Firefox, but not IE 8.

Part of my job requires that I submit comments to newspaper articles found on the web. When accessed via Firefox (my favorite browser) some newspaper web pages will not show the number of comments posted to an article, and I cannot post a comment to that article unless I change browsers.

IE8 (horrid!) allows me to access and post comments on the Idaho Statesman web page I listed above. But IE8 is ungainly, no fun, and usually crashes on me.

I use the app Ghostery on my Firefox browser. I've suspected that this is causing me grief, but even when I pause blocking on Ghostery I cannot read comments, post comments, and the comment count remains at zero, on the Idaho Statesman web page.

I'm sure this is a settings issue, but I cannot figure it out myself.

Thanks!

When I get to step #4, I initially see 0 comments, then a half second later it changes to 1 comment when the scripts from disqus.com kick in. Is it possible you are blocking that site in Ghostery, or with another script blocker or ad blocker? I haven't used Ghostery, but if it doesn't show you all the sites it is blocking on a page, you might want to suggest they add that feature.

Could you describe the sequence of what you're doing and where it breaks down? Since I'm not registered with the site, when I click Post As... at the end of the comment area, I get the attached dialog.

Did it work better before with previous Firefox versions?

Some things that you can check to see if it helps.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Via Firefox: 1. Pull up Idaho Statesman web page. 2. Enter term into the search bar and make a search for a particular topic. 3. Select a story and click on it. 4. Upper right of the story says “0 Comments”. a. There are comments posted but the site says there are “0 Comments”. 5. Click on “Comments” and the page scrolls to the bottom but doesn’t open the comment page 6. The ability to sign in does not appear, either.

Via IE8: 1. Open Idaho Statesman web page in Internet Explorer 8 2. Enter term into the search bar. 3. Select a story and click on it. 4. Upper right of the story says “3 Comments” 5. Click on “Comments” and the page scrolls to the 3 comments, with an empty comment box on top of the comments, inviting me to comment. 6. I can type a comment in the open box, then click “Post As” and the login window you experienced pops up. 7. I can then log in and post the comment. Thank you for working with me to resolve this. I’m fairly certain there must be a setting I can change, or my Ghostery app is causing the problem on just this one page.

A further hint is that a couple pop-ups do successfully get through my pop-up blocker on IE8 that do not come up with Firefox.

Thanks again!
