a recent tab refuses to open and redirects me to yahoo search.
The tab was closed last month and whenever I try to open it from History it gives me a blank page or redirects me to yahoo search. It is a pdf file I was suppose to save.

if you are on Windows - is that file still listed in the Downloads window?
If so, right-click that file and select Open Containing Folder. If that Menu item is greyed-out, you didn't save that file, but opened it in Firefox without saving it first. In that case, it might be in the Windows TEMP files - but you may have trouble identifying that file by name - then you need to go by date and time and look for a pdf file.
