1. "Proceed" allows compact to occur after you click the button 2. If you mark the checkbox (and click Proceed), then you will not be prompted in the future
I dont want to remove my deleted emails, and I dont want to be nagged at all the time.

That dialog (Compact/purge) DOES NOT REMOVE MESSAGES IN TRASH
I am not talking about the compact mailbox nagging. I am talking about thunderbird nagging to remove deleted emails.
Post a screen shot please so we have a common understanding of what you are talking about. Thanks.
Its simple enough, I think I explained it clearly.
"The messages you have deleted can be purged from disk. This operation will save about 308 MB of disk space. Select the option below to let Thunderbird do this automatically without asking you."
Above is the text of the message, there is a tick box and more text under the message.

Thank you. This is more exact, and is PRECISELY the current version of the "compact" dialog.
The process it is alerting about does not delete messages from trash.
It frees space of messages that are gone from folders that you CANNOT possibly access - these message are already gone from the folders even before you see this dialog. You can't get these messages back. It is a housekeeping, maintenance activity. Nothing more.
I still get the "compact" dialogue, so it would seem that the 2 nagging dialogues are different. Why would Thunderbird programmers put "The messages you have deleted can be purged from disk. " when it is compacting the database.

Don't know you mean by two dialogs. You only gave the wording of one dialog "The messages you have deleted can be purged from disk. This operation will save about 308 MB of disk space. Select the option below to let Thunderbird do this automatically without asking you."

Let's agree the wording isn't great, and deal only with the behavior you are seeing.
swatchwayweb, what is the wording (or screen shot) of your other dialog?
